Colour is one of the easiest elements to change in any given project, but can also be the scariest to face. This class will introduce some of the science behind colour, and more importantly, will help you with the art of combining colours. We’ll leave the dated method of choosing colours by season behind, and embrace colours through mood and inspiration. Whether your wardrobe is a riot of colour or neutral-on-neutral, you’ll learn surprising ways to change things up for your next project.
The classes will cover basic colour theory and terminology, and then move into the exciting parts where we apply this knowledge. We’ll spend lots of time discussing inspiration, and, weather permitting, go into the community for a short nature walk. We’ll discuss both the opportunities and limitations of colour as related to textiles, and evaluate multiple swatches. Students will be expected to complete small amounts of homework and come ready to share their findings. And I promise that no one is going to make you ditch your favourite colour - you may just find even more reasons to love it.
Please bring a small set of pencil crayons to the first class (minimum 12 colours). You may wish to keep a small art notebook for your findings.
